Where it hangs best
Use the 13.8-inch version in single bedrooms, powder rooms, walk-in closets, and breakfast nooks. The 17.7-inch version is ideal for standard-sized bedrooms and hallways where a medium-scale fixture suits the room without overwhelming it. Choose 23.6 inches for dining rooms seating four to six people and medium-to-large living rooms. The 33-inch version belongs in large living rooms, master bedroom suites, and open-plan dining areas where the room scale demands a ceiling fixture with genuine presence and authority. Center the fixture precisely over the primary seating arrangement or dining table for the most balanced visual result — off-center placement reads as a mistake rather than an intentional design choice in circular ceiling fixtures.
- Over a table or island
- Leave about 30–36 in between the surface and the bottom of the fixture so it lights the table without blocking sightlines.
- Open floor
- Where people walk underneath, keep 7 ft (84 in) or more of headroom; add 3 in for each foot of ceiling above 8 ft.
- Over a long table
- Aim for a fixture about half to two thirds the table's length, or a row of pendants spaced 24–30 in apart.
- The bulb
- 2700K–3000K warm white suits living and dining rooms; 3000K–3500K reads crisper in kitchens and baths.
Designer's rule of thumb: add the room's length and width in feet. That number, in inches, is a good fixture width.
